ATP Belgrade – Saturday Preview

Written by Diana on 30 April 2011.

Djokovic Novak vs. Tipsarevic Janko

After 2 hours and 38 minutes of play Tipsarevic advanced in semi-finals in Belgrade as Devvarman couldn’t resist to another grueling match in just 2 days. Things looked easily for Tipsarevic in the first set but the Indian woke up in the second and started to fight for every point and leveled the score and continued his grueling tennis in decider but the Serb proved fresher. A lot of people will be on this match as two Serbian will dispute the remaining place in final. "Pressure is part of the game, especially in front of your own fans but it's also a very special feeling to be here and I am looking forward to playing against Janko", said Djokovic who advanced after he beat Kavcic on a rainy day.

Djokovic is undefeated this year and is hard to go against him in his own tournament, Tipsarevic has the game to be a tricky player and we see a tougher encounter.

Lopez Feliciano vs. Volandri Filippo

On his least favorite surface and without losing a set, Spaniard Feliciano Lopez is in semi-finals in Serbia Open beating Monaco, Gonzalez and Montanes in his road.

But neither looked in solid form and the Spaniard all he needed was to keep his serve. Lopez fired 10 aces and never dropped serve, so one break was enough for him in each set while Montanes never looked that he will push too much on court.

He will meet Volandri who beat Granollers showing a solid tennis, Granollers put a lot of fight but the Italian proved too strong. H2h is 7-1 for Lopez with 2-1 on clay, the most recent meeting is back in 2007. Volandri was solid from the back of the court with his backhand working great in long rallies, Granollers directed a lot of balls on this wing. The Italian hasn’t the same powerful serve but from the back of the court he can have the upper hand against Lopez who isn’t the most stable player in long rallies.

Light rain is expected in Belgrade which will slow down the pace on court, Volandri looked like a man in the mission here.
