Roland Garros – Men’s Wednesday Preview

Written by Diana on 31 May 2011.

Rafael Nadal vs. Robin Soderling

Maybe for the first time in his career Rafael Nadal is not sure of himself. "I am not playing enough well to win this tournament. That's the truth. You have to be realistic. But I have won here five times already. I don't have an obligation to win six", said Nadal.

But the real thing is that Spaniard’s game suffers. The Spaniard says he is confused by his lack of confidence and his poor movement, which clearly are connected. Wasn’t an easy match for the Spaniard but still he makes too many errors on court and also benefit by the Croatian errors.

"It will be a tough match. He's one of the best players. He's played 2 finals here at Roland Garros, so he knows what this means", said Nadal about his game against Soderling. The Swede made a solid match against Simon but only partially and was a little bit lucky that the Frenchman didn’t pushed too much in the third set where the Swede was a little bit off. Not an easy match as Nadal’s confidence is shaky and if Soderling will be on his game then can once more to win against Nadal.

The bounce is high in Paris and gives an extra time to Soderling to set his shots, one of the main keys of the Swede’s success here, the weather is also sunny and things are on fast side, the Swede isn’t without chances but the problem also for him is that the struggled on his own game.

Andy Murray vs. Juan Ignacio Chela

Andy Murray will attempt to play through his ankle injury once again when he takes on Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela in the quarter-finals of the French Open.

The Briton revealed after Tuesday's fourth-round win against Viktor Troicki that a scan over the weekend had shown a partial tear to one of the tendons in his right ankle. But still he managed to come back from 2 sets down to beat Troicki, over 2 days, to be one win from a first semi-final at Roland Garros. They met last year in French Open and the Britt went through but a lot of games were tight with a lot of long rallies, the physical condition is a question mark here, the Argentine has two matches of five sets but he knows that against an injured Murray has his chances.

Murray proved that he is a hard nut to crack even on this surface and overall can have the upper hand on Argentine’s serve as Chela hasn’t a powerful serve, the only plus for him is his experience on the surface. If Murray will be fit enough will enter to win, the match against Troicki will give a lot of morale which missed since AO.
