Written by Diana on 12 June 2011.

Philipp Kohlschreiber vs. Philipp Petzschner

Unseeded Philipp Petzschner booked his spot in one of the most unexpected finals in Gerry Weber Open after he defeated Tomas Berdych.

Solid match for the German who started very aggressive and he lead almost the entire match, except the second set which went entirely to Berdych.

“This was a sensational match. He is a fantastic player. The only way I stayed in the match was with fight and grit. Even if I had lost I could have been proud of my performance”, said Petzschner. He will meet Kohlschreiber who beat Monfils in two sets. H2h is 2-1 for Kohlschreiber, 1-1 overall on fast grounds. Kohlschreiber hopes to win his first Halle title after losing to Roger Federer in the 2008 final. Kohlschreiber wasn’t same decisive on serve but his ground game helped him, especially his returns as neither Monfils served better.

Tricky match with both players knowing well opponent’s game, overall Petzschner served better all week but Kohlshreiber won more points behind the serve looking better on the ground, the match can go either way but if Kohlschreiber will not suffer downs in his game and mental he should take the title in Halle this year in 3 sets.
