Wimbledon 2011 – Nadal’s injured foot

Written by Diana on 29 June 2011.

Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he will play in his quarterfinal match at Wimbledon 2011 on Wednesday.

The men are not in action on Day 8 from Wimbledon 2011 with most of the talk regarding the men's draw on Tuesday focusing on Rafael Nadal, his MRI, and whether or not he will be playing on Day 9.

Nadal injured his foot in his match against Juan Martin Del Potro but following a scan on Tuesday it has been confirmed that he will be playing against Mardy Fish in the Wimbledon quarters. According to Nadal's Facebook fan page from Tuesday afternoon: "Good morning everybody. Yesterday after the match I went to take an MRI at a London hospital. During the match I thought I had something serious but as the match went through the pain got better and thankfully the tests don't show an injury. Today I will practice at 4.30 pm and I'll play tomorrow. Thanks all for the support."

Fish may ground some optimism in the fact that he's playing an opponent at less than 100% as a career opportunity has presented itself for the American, a player who has never made a semifinal match in any Grand Slam. Andy Murray may be a beneficiary should Nadal not be at 100% as the Nadal and Murray could face one another in the semis, if Nadal bests Fish and Murray beats Feliciano Lopez.

The other side of the draw will feature quarterfinals on Wednesday between Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in one match and Novak Djokovic vs Bernard Tomic in the other.
