Rogers Cup: Monfils meets Troicki in round of 16

Fifth seed Gael Monfils is set for a round of 16 clash with fellow seed Viktor Troicki late Thursday afternoon. The two will contest their first meeting for a spot in the Rogers Cup quarterfinal. World No. 7 Gael Monfils put together a solid opening-round effort, having upended American qualifier Alex Bogomolov in straight sets. The 24-year-old Frenchman held 10 consecutive service games through to a 96-minute victory, 6-2, 7-6(5).

Monfils is bidding for his seventh quarterfinal berth of the season.

World No. 15 Viktor Troicki outlasted John Isner in the second round, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. The 25-year-old Serbian collected 9 aces and four service breaks during the one-hour, 47-minute match.

He looks to make his seventh quarterfinal this year.
