16 time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer took on his arch rival and Argentine superstar Juan Martin Del Potro on Tuesday, as he started off his title defence at the 2011 Western and Southern Open, an ATP World Tour 1000 event being played here in Cincinnati, USA. With his fine play, third-seeded Federer earned a comprehensive 6-3 7-5 victory over World No. 19 Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina and advanced into the third-round of the 2011 Cincinnati Open.

Federer won this match in 1 hour and 31 minutes, as he served really well and also executed precision-oriented shots. Federer fired 12 aces and hammered 35 massive winners. The Swiss ace converted 2 out of 8 break points to make it an easy affair in the end.

Juan Martin Del Potro showed some resilience in the second-set before he committed a few errors and got broken in the eleventh game. Federer held on to his serve in the next game and won the match in straight sets. In the third-round, Federer will take on World No. 84 James Blake of USA, who eased past Fabio Fognini of Italy in straight sets with a 6-4 6-2 scoreline.

Earlier in the day, Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga displayed trademark power tennis to breeze past Marin Cilic 6-3 6-4, in the first round of the 2011 Cincinnati Open.
