ATP US Open 2011 Preview: Robby Ginepri vs. Joao Souza

Former semi-finalist Robby Ginepri takes on Joao Souza in the opening round of the US Open today.

Ginepri was awarded a wildcard into the main draw but the 28 year old is going to have to start delivering results if he’s going to get back in the top 100 anytime soon as the handouts are going to start drying up over the next five months.

He made the final of the Vancouver challenger at the start of this month but hasn’t looked capable of living with the guys on the main tour. Alex Bogomolov Jnr outplayed him in straight sets in Cincinnati.

This is a great opportunity for both men. Souza is ranked at a career high of 90 after some success on the clay last month and after battling through qualifying last week, he could not have wished for a better draw.
