Federer dazzles Monaco to reach quarterfinals at US Open
Third-seed Roger Federer of Switzerland thrashed World No. 36 Juan Monaco of Argentina in straight sets with a 6-1 6-2 6-0 scoreline and stormed into the quarterfinal of the 2011 US Open.
Five-time US Open Champion Roger Federer of Switzerland looked in sublime touch as he comprehensively outplayed the World No. 36 Juan Monaco of Argentina in straight sets with a 6-1 6-2 6-0 scoreline and stormed into the quarterfinal of the 2011 US Open, this year’s last Grand Slam, being played here at Flushing Meadows, New York. Federer pounced upon the Argentine from the word ‘Go’ and enthralled everyone in the crowd with his impeccable performance on Monday night play session, which got further delayed as Wozniacki – Kuznetsova match was completed in more than three hours.Federer took 1 hour and 23 minutes to dispatch Juan Monaco, who just could not match up with the prominence of Federer and lost the match – on a tame note. Well, the third-seed took only 18 minutes to win the first set as he fired 2 aces and committed only 3 unforced errors as compared to Monaco's 9. Federer earned 100% points on his first serve, hammered 10 winners and converted 2 out of 4 break points to sail through. Monaco did not have a break point in the first set.
The trend continued and Federer took 37 minutes to win the second-set. The Swiss ace earned 87% points on his first serve and converted 2 out of 5 break points. Once again, Monaco did not have a break point in the second-set. Federer hammered 19 winners, while Monaco committed 8 unforced errors. And, it was a one-way traffic in the third set, as Federer did not allow Monaco to win a single game and stormed into the quarterfinal.
In the quarterfinal, Federer will lock horns with World No. 11 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France, who earned a hard-fought five sets victory over American No. 1 Mardy Fish with a 6-4 6-7(7) 3-6 6-4 6-2 scoreline and secured his berth in the quarter-final of the 2011 US Open.
