Davis Cup: Ivan Dodig vs. Izak Van der Merwe

Ivan Dodig and Izak Van Der Merwe will meet on Sunday in the final matchup of the Davis Cup World Group play-off tie between South Africa and Croatia.

If Kevin Anderson can overcome Marin Cilic on Sunday, the Davis Cup World Group play-off between South Africa and Croatia will be settled in the second reverse singles match, which will feature Ivan Dodig and Izak Van Der Merwe. Whilst Anderson is struggling with an injury at the moment, he shouldn’t be ruled out against Cilic.

Croatia are considered to be in the driving seat here in Potchefstroom, as Dodig is likely to get the better of Van Der Merwe. Dodig lost to Anderson on Friday, but wasn’t outclassed. Van Der Merwe on the other hand, was 6-0, 6-0 down against Cilic before he retired.

Van Der Merwe has only played four matches on the ATP World Tour this year, whilst Dodig has featured regularly and even managed to bag a title. Unless the South African can produce one of the best performances of his career, Croatia’s place in the Davis Cup World Group will be safe for another year.
