ATP Tokyo: David Nalbandian vs. Ivan Dodig
David Nalbandian looks to book a quarter-final place at the Japan Open when he takes on giant killing Croatian Ivan Dodig on Thursday.
Nalbandian had to go through double leg surgery back in March and unsurprisingly it's taken the injury prone Argentine some time to bring his metronomic baseline game back to its usual levels. He was not happy with his tennis during the summer but looked extremely sharp during a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lukas Rosol on Tuesday."It was a very good first round," Nalbandian said. "I feel that every day I’m getting better, so I’m happy with the play today. I didn’t start very well in the US Open Series, but week after week I’m feeling better, playing better and that’s the result today."
Casual tennis fans may remember Dodig as the man who knocked Rafael Nadal out of the Montreal Masters earlier this summer. The big serving Croatian is known for pulling off the odd seismic upset and he did it again this week, saving match point to take out eighth seed Juan Monaco 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(1).
