ATP Shanghai Masters: Bernard Tomic vs. Alexandr Dolgopolov

Written by Diana on 13 October 2011.

Two of tour's hottest young stars, Bernard Tomic and Alexandr Dolgopolov prepare themselves for a tough test in the pre-quarterfinals of the 2011 Shanghai Masters.

World No.18 Alexandr Dolgopolov takes on Australian giant-killer Bernard Tomic for a place in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Shanghai Rolex Masters, an ATP World Tour 1000 event being played here in Shanghai, China.

Australian Bernard Tomic has been the 'story of the tournament' at Wimbledon this year with his surprising run to the quarterfinals. Tomic Currently ranked No.49 in the world, Tomic has no ATP singles titles to his name and his most recent last eight finish has been in Tokyo at the Japan Open Tennis Championships.

Tomic's opponent, Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov can easily consider 2011 as his breakthrough season. After a confidence boosting quarterfinal run at the year's first Grand Slam Australian Open, Dolgopolov reached the finals in Costa Do Sauipe and finally clinched title victory in Umag. Dolgopolov also made several semifinal appearances at the ATP World Tour 250 level events.

Both players have contested two matches before and Dolgopolov has recorded wins in each in convincing manner. In the pair's previous encounter this year in Sydney, Dolgopolov survived an opening set deficit to beat home favourite Tomic to move ahead at the event.

Dolgopolov is in tremendous form and is likely to post win in today's match as well, but only after three sets of struggle.
