David Ferrer qualifies for 2011 ATP World Tour Finals
David Ferrer has been consistent in 2011 with semi-final and final performances all over the place. As a result he has found a place in the 2011 ATP WORLD TOUR FINALS for the third time.
Determined Spaniard, David Ferrer is the fifth player to qualify for the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals which being held in November 20-27 at The O2 in London, showcasing the world’s Top 8 singles players and doubles teams of the year.After marching into to the quarter-finals at the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Thursday, Ferrer gets himself flanked with Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Roger Federer as the other qualified singles players.
Extensively experienced and baseline slugger, Ferrer will be making his third appearance in the season finale, the second in a row. In 2007, he won all round robin play-offs and reached the title match, squandering one set along the way before surrendering to No. 1 Roger Federer.
Ferrer said, “This is what I have been fighting for all year. I've had a great season with a lot of wins and I can't wait to return to London. It is such a great event and it is so special to be among the top 8 players once again. The atmosphere is incredible there."
The No. 5th-ranked Spaniard has been consistent all year long as he has won titles in Auckland in January and Acapulco in late February. He earned a final spot in the ATP Masters 1000 event in Monte-Carlo, Barcelona in April and Bastad in July. In the first Grand Slam tournament of the season at the Australian Open, he entered the semi-finals, beating then number one, Nadal in the quarters.
He has also helped his country to the Davis Cup final by posting a 3-0 record in wins over the U.S. in Austin, Texas, defeating Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish, in the quarter-finals and France’s Gilles Simon on Sept. 16 in the semi-finals.
