ATP Stockholm: Milos Raonic vs. Philipp Petzschner

Written by Diana on 19 October 2011.

Milos Raonic impressed in the opening round of the Stockholm Open and he takes on Philipp Petzschner on Wednesday for a place in the quarters.

Raonic's debut on the indoor circuit has been much anticipated after the fireworks he produced at the start of the year on the North American hard courts. He did not disappoint, smashing down 22 aces during a thrilling first round clash with Marcos Baghdatis.

Baghdatis was on his way to the Moscow final this time last year and an experienced competitor, the Cypriot was not about to lie down meekly. However, despite dropping serve just once, that crucial lapse of concentration in the deciding set ultimately cost him as Raonic edged through 7-6(5), 6-7(4), 6-4.

It should be another close one against German serve-volleyer Philipp Petzschner whose attacking game is perfectly suited to courts this fast. Petzschner enjoyed a comfortable 6-2, 7-5 first round win against Polish veteran Lukasz Kubot.

However Petzschner has not been in the best of form recently and he lost in qualifying for the Shanghai Masters. Expect Raonic to pull through, possibly in another three setter.
