ATP Stockholm: Kevin Anderson vs. Tommy Haas
Fifth seed Kevin Anderson takes on former world number two Tommy Haas in the second round of the Stockholm Open.
Haas returned to the tour after a long injury layoff at the French Open earlier this year but the German has struggled to make an impact as his current ranking of 290 shows and he's still relying on wildcards for virtually every event he wants to enter and not every tour level tournament is that accomodating. This is his first event since the US Open where he looked more like his old self, battling to the third round before falling to Juan Monaco. He looked fairly sharp on Monday to take out Somdev Devvarman 7-6(4), 6-4 and could provide Anderson with quite a test.
The fifth seed is enjoying a career best season and currently lies at 31 in the rankings. He had a very tricky opener against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez but battled through 7-6(1), 7-6(4), although things would have been easier had he converted more than three of his thirteen break point chances.
Expect Anderson's huge serving to hold sway in this one. He smashed 13 aces past Garcia-Lopez and will probably get the job done in the tiebreaks again.
