WTA Madrid Tuesday Preview

Caroline Wozniacki vs. Bojana Jovanovski

The 2011 WTA Madrid event continues on Tuesday as world number one Caroline Wozniacki faces rising star Bojana Jovanovski.

Caroline Wozniacki and Bojana Jovanovski are scheduled to meet in a Tuesday match from the WTA's Premier Mandatory event in Madrid. The two players have never met in a tour match yet however based on their rankings and the fact that they are closely aged, they promise to meet many times in the future. Wozniacki, 20 years old, enters the match ranked number one while Jovanovski, a 19 year old Serbian, enters the match ranked 58th, a high ranking for her age.

This could be hailed as a match between the former Teen Queen in Wozniacki and perhaps the Teen Queen in waiting with Jovanovski as Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the current highest ranked teenager on tour, will be 20 years old in a couple of months.

Wozniacki's clay court season hit a little bit of a snag in April as she lost in the final of WTA Stuttgart to Julia Goerges. However with wins in the draw over Andrea Petkovic and Agnieszka Radwanska the top ranked Dane still looks sharp.

Jovanovski has not played much on clay recently however she did face Dominika Cibulkovia in Fed Cup play in April, in a match that was a 3 set loss for the Serbian. Perhaps it's fair to say that Jovanovski's clay court abilities are not yet clear as she's never really experienced a full season of tour level events yet.

In clay court tournaments from 2010, Jovanovski did nothing of note as she toiled with and usually fell in qualifying matches.

Francesca Schiavone vs. Sara Errani

Two Italian players go head to head on Tuesday in the women's draw at Madrid 2011 , Francesca Schiavone and Sara Errani are scheduled to meet today on the court.

Schiavone, the reigning French Open champion, enters the match as the 4th ranked player on the women's tour while Errani enters the match ranked 40th. However the betting odds for the match do not make Schiavone a huge favorite despite the large difference in ranking.

Schiavone is certainly favored but many think that Errani has a chance in this match and that is due to how well she has played during the current clay court season.

Errani made the semifinals in both Barcelona and Marbella while Schiavone did nothing in Stuttgart, the only clay court tournament she's played in recently. In that event Agnieszka Radwanska eliminated the French Open champion in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

If that is a hint of what is to come on Tuesday then perhaps this match will be a tight affair.
