World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki will compete for her fourth title of the season on Saturday, in the final of this week’s Brussels Ladies Open. The Dane had to work hard to get past third seed Francesca Schiavone in the semi-finals, but eventually clinched a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory. Having beaten the French Open champion just days before this year’s competition, Wozniacki appears to be in a great position to finally claim a Slam title.
Wozniacki will take on Shuai Peng in Saturday’s final. Peng is still aiming to win her first career WTA title, though she’s been a tournament runner-up four times. The world No. 31 earned her place in the final by securing an impressive 6-3, 6-3 win against Vera Zvonareva, in which she won 88 percent of the points played on her first serve.
Wozniacki has won her last two matches against Peng, and enters this match with a 2-1 head to head record against her. Whilst Wozniacki seems to have momentum on her side, the pairing haven’t faced each other since 2009, and Peng might be able to provide an upset on Saturday. Even so, the top seed still seems likely to prevail.
