WTA Rogers Cup 2011 Match Preview - Kim Clijsters vs. Jie Zheng

Written by Diana on 10 August 2011.

Four time major champion Kim Clijsters is attempting to revive herself on her favourite hardcourts and in her Toronto opener, she faces seasoned chinese campaigner Jie Zheng.

World No.2 Kim Clijsters takes on Chinese Jie Zheng in her opening round match at the 2011 Rogers Cup, a WTA premier event being played here in Toronto, Canada. After making a fabulous start to the 2011 season with her fourth major triumph at the Australian Open, Belgian Kim Clijsters retained the top spot in WTA rankings for a week and gave a clear indication that her second innings are capable of fetching her all sorts of success. Clijsters then injured almost every pivotal part of her legs through a string of various injuries that, in turn, kept her out of action for almost 3 months.

Clijsters' opponent, Chinese Jie Zheng delivered fabulous performances at Grand Slam level with a semifinal appearances at Wimbledon in 2008 and Australian Open in 2010. Zheng shone brighter in the doubles arena with two titles and put an unfortunate end to the 2010 season post US Open with a wrist injury. This year, Zheng struggled to manage wins in all the tournaments she entered. Zheng is currently ranked 82 in the world and has 3 WTA singles titles to her name.

Both players have contested only one match before and Clijsters has recorded win in it.

Clijsters will have a tough time for sure in her first match in nearly one and a half month but she is expected to post a win in three closely contested sets.
