Wozniacki stunned, Li Na advances in Rogers Cup
Roberta Vinci scored her first career win against Top 5 player on Wednesday. She stunned No 1 Caroline Wozniacki at Rogers Cup. Italian Roberta Vinci upset World No 1 and defending champion Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 7-5 in a second-round match at the Rogers Cup on Wednesday.
After a hard fought first set, Vinci bounced back from 1-5 in the second and saved three set points one at 1-5, two at 2-5 en route to the victory.
"I thought I could win today. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I thought I could," Vinci said. "It was really hard to play with the wind, but I was just trying to focus on every point. I saw she was making a lot of mistakes"
"Today was definitely not my best match," Wozniacki said later. "It was very difficult with the wind but also the way Vinci was playing and I didn't get a chance to really get any rhythm."
Earlier in the day Li Na of China advanced as her opponent Peng Shuai withdrew due to a hip injury.
Also, this year Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova rallied past Anabel Medina Garrigues 7-6(3), 6-3.
