In an exciting semi-final duel of the 2011 Rogers Cup, World No. 11 Samantha Stosur of Australia will take on World No. 12 Agnieszka Radwanska. Both contenders have been enjoying a good form of late and we can expect a thrilling encounter between these 2.
Polish Agnieszka Radwanska has been playing really well of late and has been enjoying a fabulous 9-match winning streak, Agnieszka Radwanska now is just a couple of wins away from claiming her second consecutive title by winning the 2011 Rogers Cup, a WTA premier event being played here in Toronto, Canada.
The Polish contender opened her quarterfinal match on a superb note and reeled off three games in a row against her opponent, before Andrea Petkovic made a mini comeback to level things till 4-4. In the end, Radwanska edged past Petkovic with a 6-4, 6-2 scoreline to advance to the semifinals. On the other hand, Samantha Stosur beat Roberta Vinci in straight sets 6-4 6-1 to set up this clash with Radwanska.
Stosur, who is chasing third WTA title of her career, has a 24-16 win-loss record this year. The Australian did very well to reach the final of the Roland Garros last year, but could not live up to the expectations of her fans this year, as she could not move beyond the third-round of any Grand Slam tournament this year. And, now she is looking more resilient and focussed to redeem her position in WTA.
Radwanska has a very good 28-12 win-loss record this year and she is coming off from a fresh title victory in Carlsbad a few days ago, where she clinched her fifth WTA title. In head-to-head, both contenders are evenly placed at 1-1. Last time they met 2 years back in Indian Wells, where Radwanska rallied past the Australian in three gruelling sets.
