Serena downs Safarova to reach semis at Toronto

For the second consecutive time, former World No 1 Serena Williams registered a three set win after losing the first set. Last night she overcame Jie Zheng challenge in three set and today was Lucie Safarova.

In the last match of the day at Rogers Cup, Toronto former World No 1 Serena Williams rallied from a set down to beat Lucie Safarova 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the opening set of the match the American struggled to keep the ball in play and committed number of double faults. As a result she lost the set 4-6 but in the second set she looked like a different player as she moved Safarova around the court and waited patienly for the opportunities to come her way.

In the deciding set, Serena stepped up the pedal and outhit Safarova wirh her big ground-strokes and heavy serves.

With this win she reached the semis where she wll face Belarussian Victoria Azarenka, who ousted Galina Voskoboeva 6-3, 7-5 earlier in the day
