Vera Zvonareva vs. Petra Martic in Cincinnati Open

Written by Diana on 18 August 2011.

Vera Zvonareva will take on Petra Martic tonight for a place in the quarter-finals of the Western and Southern Open.

Vera Zvonareva produced a stellar performance on Wednesday in Cincinnati to get past Ekaterina Makarova in round two of the Western and Southern Open. The world No. 2 was in total control against Makarova, and managed to win over half of the points played on her compatriots serve. The Russian will now face Petra Martic tonight for a place in the quarter-finals. Martic secured an impressive three set victory over seventeenth seed Yanina Wickmayer in round two, and she should be full of confidence at the moment. The Croat has nothing to lose here, and it will be interesting to see what she can do.

Zvonareva will be the favourite for this upcoming contest, and she’ll be hoping to finish this clash within straight sets. Martic has the ability to provide a stern test for the second seed, but unless she’s in inspired form she’ll be destined for an uphill struggle.
