WTA US Open 2011 Preview: Ana Ivanovic vs. Petra Cetkovska

Written by Diana on 01 September 2011.

Ana Ivanovic will be aiming to make amends when she takes on Petra Cetkovska on Thursday in round two of the U.S Open.

Ana Ivanovic made a routine start to her U.S Open campaign this year by clinching a confident 6-4, 6-2 victory over Ksenia Pervak of Russia. The Serb only needed 80 minutes to finish the match, and reaped the rewards of being the more aggressive player on the day.

Her next matchup will be against Petra Cetkovska, who defeated her in the third round this year at Wimbledon. Cetkovska is currently the world No. 32, and she’s producing the best tennis of her career at the moment. The 26 year-old reached the first WTA final of her career last week in New Haven, where she was eventually beaten by world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.

Ivanovic holds a 1-1 head to head record against Cetkovska, having double-bagelled her at the French Open in 2008. Thurday’s contest could turn out to be a thriller, and it will be interesting to see if Cetkovska can once again get the better of the world No. 19.
