Jankovic wins the battle of Jelanas, Schiavone breezes through
2008 finalist Jelena Jankovic recorded win in a topsy turvy affair and advanced to the next round of the 2011 US Open, joining French Open finalist Francesca Schiavone and Ana Ivanovic, who didn't need a single hit of the ball to secure her next round berth.
Former World No.1 Jelena Jankovic battled past Jelena Dokic of Australia to advance to the third round of the 2011 US Open, season's fourth and final Grand Slam event, being played here at Flushing Meadows in New York, USA.Jankovic made a bad start to the match and lost her serve in the very first game, but she soon recovered to first level and then win the first set 6-3.
The second set saw several trades of break after which Jankovic clinched a crucial one in the ninth game and successfully served for the match, winning it by 6-3, 6-4 scoreline.
Earlier today, French Open finalist Francesca Schiavone breezed past Croatian Mirjana Lucic 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the third round of the event. She was later joined by countrywoman Roberta Vinci, who scored an easy 6-3, 6-3 win over Frenchwoman Alize Cornet to move ahead in the draw.
Serbian Star Ana Ivanovic got the easiest entry into the third round when her opponent, Czech Petra Cetkovska withdrew from the match, giving the Serbian star a walkover to help her through the next round.
