Zvonareva dispatches Lisicki to meet Stosur in the US Open quarterfinal

Second-seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia earned a comprehensive 6-2 6-3 victory over World No. 23 Sabine Lisicki of Germany at Flushing Meadows on Sunday night and reached the quarter-final of the 2011 US Open. In the quarterfinal match, Zonareva will meet World No. 10 Samantha Stosur, who rallied past the Russian World No. 26 Maria Kirilenko in three sets with a 6-2 6-7 6-3 scoreline in another fourth-round encounter on Sunday.

Last year’s runner-up Vera Zvonareva of Russia earned a comprehensive 6-2 6-3 victory over World No. 23 Sabine Lisicki of Germany at Flushing Meadows on Sunday night and reached the quarter-final of the 2011 US Open. Zvonareva took only 77 minutes to dispatch Lisicki, who did not look near to her best here. The German committed 28 unforced errors and managed to convert only 1 out of 7 break points. Zvonareva earned 81% points on her first serve and hammered 16 winners; she duly converted 5 out of 8 break points to surge through.

Zvonareva needed only 29 minutes to win the first set. The Russian committed only 4 unforced errors as compared to Lisicki's 11 and converted 3 out of 4 break points – in the first set. Zvonareva served well, as she earned 81% points on her first serve and got the crucial breakthrough at the right time - in the first set. Lisicki managed to convert only a single break point out of 3 – in the first set. Well, the German played well in the second-set, but committed a double-fault in the seventh game to gift away the break to Russian, who broke again in the decisive ninth game and sailed home by winning the second-set in 48 minutes.
