WTA U.S Open match preview: Caroline Wozniacki vs. Andrea Petkovic

Written by Diana on 07 September 2011.

Caroline Wozniacki and Andrea Petkovic will meet on court on Wednesday in the quarter-finals of this year’s U.S Open.

World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki is closing in on her first slam title, but she’s got plenty of work ahead of her here in New York. Things are looking good for her though, and after pulling back from a set down against former champion Svetlana Kuznetsova (6-7(6), 7-5, 6-1), she should be in the right frame of mind to continue her challenge.

The Dane will now face Andrea Petkovic of Germany in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. Petkovic spoke recently about her previous matches against Wozniacki, and was quick to dismiss the opinion that the top seed is a defensive player. Petkovic will expect to be moved about the court by Wozniacki here, but she’ll stand a good chance if she shows the resilience that helped her to win a 47 shot rally against Carla Suarez Navarro in round four.

Wozniacki excelled when she met Petkovic in Stuttgart this year, and managed to make amends for her loss against the world No. 11 earlier in the season in Miami. Both players have been impressive in 2011, and it’s no surprise to see either of them in the last eight. Those fortunate enough to watch this upcoming match at Flushing Meadows are likely towitness a very exciting quarter-final clash.
