WTA Tashkent Open: Evgeniya Rodina vs. Eva Birnerova

Evgeniya Rodina will meet Eva Birnerova on Wednesday in round two of the Tashkent Open.

Evgeniya Rodina suffered from a second set blip against Iryna Bremond in round one here in Tashkent, but recovered quickly to clinch a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 victory. Rodina played fairly well throughout, but can count herself lucky that Bremond’s service game wasn’t particularly impressive. She’ll now be looking to live up to her status as the seventh seed and work her way into the quarter-finals.

Eva Birnerova of the Czech Republic will be Rodina’s second round opponent. Birnerova defeated Junri Namigata 6-4, 6-1 in round one, in a match that was closer than the score would suggest. Birnerova was only broken twice, but faced fourteen break points.

Rodina and Birnerova have a 1-1 head to head record, having met in 2006 in Prerov, and in 2009 in Petange. These two players should provide us with a close and exciting contest, and it’s not easy to predict who’ll come out on top on Wednesday.
