WTA Tashkent Open: Alla Kudryavtseva vs. Vitalia Diatchenko

Alla Kudryavtseva will take on Vitalia Diatchenko on Wednesday for a place in the quarter-finals of the Tashkent Open.

Alla Kudryavtseva was handed a tough first round clash against Vesna Dolonts this week in Tashkent, but she rose to the occasion to clinch a 6-2, 7-5 success. The sixth seed won safely, despite managing to save only one of the four break points that she faced.

Her next matchup will take place on Wednesday, and a place in the quarter-finals will be at stake. Her opponent will be her compatriot Vitalia Diatchenko. Diatchenko was involved in a three set thriller against Olga Govortsova in round one, where she escaped with a 7-6(6), 3-6, 6-4 victory. She’ll be keen to carry on her campaign here, but may be a little fatigued after playing for three hours on Monday.

Kudryavtseva is the favourite to win this matchup, and the fact that Diatchenko had to work so hard in round one has worked in her favour. The 23 year-old hasn’t been particularly successful this year, but she should be eager to take her opportunity to reach the last eight.
