WTA Tashkent Open: Anastasija Sevastova vs. Valeria Savinykh
Anastasija Sevastova is scheduled to take on Valeria Savinykh on Wednesday in the second round of the Tashkent Open.
Anastasija Sevastova appears to be a genuine contender for this week’s Tashkent Open title following an assured first round performance against Mariya Koryttseva of the Ukraine. The Latvian was broken three times, but her return game saw her through. Incredibly, she won a greater percentage of points on her return than she did on serve. The fourth seed will now be directing her attention towards a second round showdown against Valeria Savinykh. Savinykh set up this clash by getting the better of Lesia Tsurenko in just over 83 minutes. The Russian was in superb form in ITF competitions earlier in the year, and she could well be about to make her mark at WTA level this week.
Savinykh has a 1-0 head to head record against Sevastova, having beaten her in Dubai in 2009 (4-6, 6-4, 6-0). Sevastova has the ability to make amends for this, but it seems like there’s not a lot to choose between these two competitors. It will be intriguing to see how this upcoming clash unfolds.
