WTA Tashkent Open: Ksenia Pervak vs. Sabina Sharipova
Ksenia Pervak will continue her Tashkent Open title charge on Wednesday with a second round clash against Sabina Sharipova.
Ksenia Pervak has shown great improvements as a player in recent months, and she‘ll be looking to make a serious bid for this year’s Tashkent Open title. As the top seed, Pervak is surely in with a chance here, and her performance in round one was encouraging. She took on Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan, and sailed through with a 6-2, 7-5 victory.Pervak’s second round opponent will be wildcard entrant Sabina Sharipova. Sharipova made an ideal start this week with a 6-4, 6-1 success against Greek qualifier Eirini Georgatou. Whether or not she can build upon this is a different matter, but the backing of the home crowd could inspire her to cause Pervak a few problems.
Sharipova played with great confidence in round one, but we can expect to see her come unstuck on Wednesday. Pervak demonstrated what she’s capable of by reaching the final in Baku earlier this season, and on current form she should be a class above the 17 year-old.
