WTA Tashkent Open: Ksenia Pervak vs. Victoria Larriere

Written by Diana on 15 September 2011.

Ksenia Pervak will be looking to close in on the Tashkent Open title on Thursday when she meets Victoria Larriere in the quarter-finals.

Ksenia Pervak has been turning in performances fitting of her status as the top seed, and she’s worked her way into the quarter-finals of the Tashkent Open without losing a set. She dominated her second round clash against home favourite Sabina Sharipova, cruising to victory in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). The consistency of her service game was a key factor in her success.

Pervak will now take on Victoria Larriere for a place in the final four. Larriere caused a shock by defeating fifth seed Magdalena Rybarikova, 6-4, 6-4. Rybarikova has been struggling for form of late, and her inability to capitalise on break point opportunities cost her dearly. Larriere, on the other hand, has been racking up wins in ITF competitions, and her confidence was arguably the difference.

Pervak will be the favourite on Thursday, and Larrier’s momentum probably won’t be enough to see her get past the world No. 52. Pervak has showed what she’s capable of in the tail end of this season, and she might just be on her way to a maiden WTA title.
