WTA Tashkent Open: Eleni Daniilidou vs. Urszula Radwanska
Eleni Daniilidou is set to meet Urszula Radwanska on Thursday in the quarter-finals of the Tashkent Open.
Elenia Daniilidou has made a good start to this year’s Tashkent Open, and she edged closer to a sixth career WTA title on Wednesday by beating Misaki Doi 7-6(5), 6-4. Daniilidou isn’t enjoying the most successful season of her career, but her results have generally been encouraging, and she seems like a genuine contender here in Uzbekistan.Daniilidou is now through to Thursday’s quarter-finals, and she’s scheduled to take on Urszula Radwanska of Poland. Radwanska has had to work hard for her place in the last eight, but she should be feeling pleased about her comeback against Akgul Amanmuradova in round two. Radwanska lost a tie-breaker in the first set, but eventually prevailed with a 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-3 success.
Daniilidou scraped past Radwanska earlier in the year in Fes, where a second set tie-breaker proved to be a turning point. The Pole will be eager to avenge her 2-6, 7-6(8), 6-4 loss, though it remains to be seen who will get the upper hand on the hard courts of Tashkent.
