WTA Beijing Open: Petra Kvitova vs. Sofia Arvidsson

Petra Kvitova continues her China Open campaign on Monday with a second round matchup against Sofia Arvidsson.

Petra Kvitova hasn’t quite been at her best following her slam success at Wimbledon this year, but she appears to be one of the most capable players in the draw this week in Beijing. She received a bye in round one, and will be looking to get off to a winning start on Monday when she meets Sofia Arvidsson in round one.

Arvidsson was on court for over two hours on Saturday, as she took part in an exciting three set clash against Alona Bondarenko. Arvidsson made a confident start to the contest, but was pegged back in the second set. The Swede refused to back down though, and pulled through to round two with a 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 victory.

Kvitova will enter this matchup with a 1-1 head to head record against Arvidsson. The world No. 6 defeated Arvidsson in Zurich in 2008, though Arvidsson made amends for this in Poitiers last season. Monday’s contest could be a close one, but Kvitova appears to be the favourite.
