WTA Beijing Open: Andrea Petkovic vs. Carla Suarez Navarro

Andrea Petkovic will take on Carla Suarez Navarro on Tuesday for a place in round three of the China Open.

Andrea Petkovic managed to book a place in the second round of the China Open this week with a 7-6(5), 6-4 victory over Lucie Safarova. Whilst Petkovic will be pleased to have progressed in straight sets, she’ll be aware that she could have closed out the match more quickly had she not allowed Safarova to fend off eight of ten break points.

The German did well to close out the match though, and she should be feeling confident about her upcoming clash against Carla Suarez Navarro. Suarez Navarro is a qualifier here, but she overcame Ekaterina Makarova in her first main draw matchup of the week in straight sets.

Suarez Navarro beat Petkovic 6-1, 6-4 in the 2010 Australian Open, but Petkovic avenged this defeat last month at the U.S Open, winning by an identical margin. Petkovic is close to breaking into the top ten at the moment, and this should give her extra motivation to get the better of Suarez Navarro once again.
