Wozniacki beaten in Beijing

Written by Diana on 08 October 2011.

Caroline Wozniacki crashed out of the China Open on Friday against Flavia Pennetta.

Caroline Wozniacki entered her quarter-final clash against Flavia Pennetta with a 5-0 head to head record against the Italian, but she unable to maintain her winning streak. The Dane won the first set, but then lost ten of the next eleven games, putting her 1-4 down in the third set.

Amazingly, she seemed to be back on track when she fought back to 6-5, and was serving for the match. She went 30-0 up, but Pennetta was unwilling to relent and broke Wozniacki to set up a tie-breaker. Sensing an opportunity, Pennetta hit some precise groundstrokes to finish off a 3-6, 6-0, 7-6(2) success.

Talking to interviewers after the match, Wozniacki said, “I had 6-5, 30-0 and should have closed the match out, Flavia played some good points at that time, though, and I think I made a few wrong decisions. It's unlucky. I knew it was going to be tough out there beforehand."
