WTA Linz Open: Jelena Jankovic vs. Anne Keothavong

Jelena Jankovic will face off against Anne Keothavong on Thursday for a place in the quarter-finals of the Generali Ladies Linz Open.

Jelena Jankovic was involved in a brief but unusual clash in the first round of the Generali Ladies Linz Open against Kateryna Bondarenko, in which she pulled through with a 4-1 retirement victory. Despite having been broken once, Jankovic hadn’t allowed Bondarenko to win a single point on serve by the time that Bondarenko withdrew due to a neck injury.

Jankovic will next be in action on Thursday, when she’ll take on Anne Keothavong for a place in the quarter-finals. Keothavong lost in the final round of qualifying here, but won her first round match against Ekaterina Makarova 6-4, 6-1 after being handed a place in the draw as a lucky loser.

Jankovic and Keothavong met once previously back in 2007 at Wimbledon. Jankovic completely dominated the matchup, leaving the court with a comfortable 6-2, 6-0 success. Keothavong has played well so far in Linz, but she could be in for another straight sets defeat here.
