Generali Ladies Linz Match Preview: Jelena Jankovic vs. Anne Keothavong

Written by Diana on 14 October 2011.

World No.13 Jelena Jankovic is ready for a British challenge in Anne Keothavong to find a place in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Generali Ladies Linz, a WTA international event being played here in linz, Austria.

Jelana Jankovic shot to super stardom in the year 2007 when she claimed big wins over top players to make her presence felt on the tour. Jankovic's big season, the year 2008, gave her a series of titles and year-end No.1 ranking besides her only Grand Slam final appearance in New York where she lost to a rejuvenated Serena Williams.

Jankovic had a terrific start to the year 2010 when she won a title in Indian Wells. Despite failing to repeat her title run in the events that followed, Jankovic managed to make the final eight cut in Doha at the WTA championships. However, more disappointment came her way when Jankovic lost all her round robin matches to end the year on a losing note. This year, Jankovic's only impressive performance came in Cincinnati where she beat some of the best players in circuit to reach the finals where she finished runner up to Maria Sharapova.

Jankovic's opponent, Britain's Anne Keothavong has been struggling to find a place in the later stages of the tournaments she has entered over the past few years. Currently ranked No.96 in the world, enjoyed best success at the ITF level with as many as eight titles. Keothavong is a fine baseliner with her most trusted ally being her forehand and her favourite surface- hard.

Both players have contested only one match before, back in 2007 at Wimbledon with Jankovic emerging victorious in straight sets.

Jankovic is dealing with a lot at the moment. Besides fitness issues, her form has also been affected. The Serbian must maintain a low error count if she wishes to have a smooth sailing at this tournament. Jankovic should come out a winner in two confident sets here though.
