WTA Moscow Open: Vera Zvonareva vs. Bojana Jovanovski

Vera Zvonareva will begin her Kremlin Cup campaign on Wednesday with a second round matchup against Bojana Jovanovski.

Vera Zvonareva has been one of the most exciting players in the WTA in recent months, and she’s got as good a chance as anyone of winning this year’s Kremlin Cup. She enters the tournament off of the back of a crushing 6-2, 6-1 defeat against Ana Ivanovic, and she’ll be keen to get back on court and back to winning ways.

Zvonareva was handed a bye in the first round, so she’ll make a start to her title charge on Wednesday with a second round clash against Bojana Jovanovski. Jovanovski made an encouraging start to the season this year, but she lost her last seven matches prior to this tournament, and she’s in desperate need of a run of results. She secured a solid 6-3, 6-0 win over Alona Bondarenko in the first round though.

Zvonareva beat the youngster 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 in this year’s Australian Open, and she’ll be looking for a more comfortable margin of success on Wednesday. Given Jovanovski’s recent form, it seems like Zvonareva will get this contest finished in straight sets.
